What knowing your DOSHA might help you understand.

An Introduction to Your Mind-Body Type

Could learning a little Ayurvedic tradition guide you to a better life? Is it possible that a pearl of ancient wisdom has enough merit to make a difference in our modern world lifestyle? Perhaps learning HOW we interact with the elements might hold the key.

The 3 Doshas Elements and Attributes

The Ayurvedic Institute explains this way: “We know that fire is hot and that water and earth are cold. It is these ELEMENTS that act upon us. The way we each experience these elements is unique to each of us.” These earth elements are labeled attributes. They are air, water, fire, earth, and ether. They are described as “states of matter.”

Simply put, the quality of the aforementioned states of matter.” is experienced differently by each your Dosha or type. These three main types are called Kapha, Pitta, and Vata. These mind-body types or Doshas possess unique emotional as well as physical characteristics.

Ancient Wisdom

This 5-6,000- year-old practice of Doshas is still practiced in India but is becoming a tool for people today who want to gain knowledge and insight into HOW they should be living their lives. There is much to learn from age-old practices. From the foods that should be eaten for your best energy to how to obtain your highest level of personal enlightenment. All of these might be clues that lie in your mind-body type.

The wisdom lies in knowing what elements a substance is made of. It is in this way that we can understand the effect it produces. The effects ARE the attributes. The message is that we can optimize our health by knowing how we respond to these elements.

The Vata dosha governs your heartbeat, breathing and all movement which would include bodily functions. The elements represented are air and ether. In Hindu philosophy, Prana or life force comes into the body with each breath, the food we eat, and from the earth and ethers. Deep breathing is important for everyone but especially important for the Vata type. This air and ether are related to as ‘wind.”

When a Vata type is in balance they are creative, adaptive and full of vitality. Energy bursts are not uncommon. Movement helps them to stay in balance and tend to be slim and slender. There is also an appreciation and affinity for warmer climates. This type really does not like the cold. Vatas frequently have cold hands and feet as well as dryer hair or skin. You might also notice the Vata dosha when agitated, is much like a hurricane. A good example of the air/wind that it represents.

When not in balance the Vata type can easily be anxious and fearful. To stay in balance the Vata type must breathe, minimize stress and find something that fuels their creativity. Movement and change are part of the nature of your type. An imbalanced Vata dosha may find themselves with digestive challenges or weight loss. You will find an ULTIMATE GUIDE for Vata here.

Pitta represents the elements of fire and water. They have a fiery nature. in both body and mind. If you add fire to water is easy to understand that the Pitta type means “that which cooks.”

Pitta controls metabolism, body temperature, nutrition, and digestion. A Pitta type also typically has an athletic nature with a sturdy frame and medium build. The governing organs of the Pitta body are the small intestine, stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, blood, eyes, and sweat.  The Pitta dosha nature is quite intense. Most Pitta types are sound sleepers and have a strong sex drive.

Speaking of digestion, you might find a Pitta gravitating toward hot spicy foods akin to their nature. This can lead to an imbalance and too much heat. Cooling foods are a fast fix. You see many Pitta types as entrepreneurs. And don’t expect a Pitta to give it to you gently. They will eagerly speak their mind. These traits when imbalanced can cause them to be a little overbearing or demanding.

Mostly, you will find the Pitta dosha to have great intellect and a buoyant personality. If they are not balanced, they will make your life miserable. You will be showered by bitterness and rage.

Learn more here about Pitta.

The elements of earth and water describe the Kapha dosha. Kapha is the representation of everything that is dense in the body such as bones, teeth, and muscles. Kapha means “that which sticks” and makes sense considering that our bones and other connective tissue are what hold us together.

Kapha is typically a very grounding and nurturing soul if you find them in balance. Love and compassion are the strong suits of Kapha. They like the lighter side of life and enjoy frequent relaxation breaks. You will find this much more opposite than the other two doshas which like to go, go, go.

Kapha is the dosha that is most affected by digestion issues if they are not careful with what they eat. Especially too much salt. They don’t really DO stress. But when not balanced it can become a bit stagnant or even lazy. When this happens it is similar to a swollen, boggy swamp. Sluggishness and depression occur. Kapha types like to have a routine to follow and that routine does not need to include excitement. Kaphas are ok with that.

Outsmarting the Cancer Process

Cancer:  Can we outsmart it?

Outsmarting the cancer process is a never-ending journey of understanding and action..

It was empowering to realize that research shows that we all have some control over getting it. It seems that the same protocol for preventing cancer is its cure. For a preventative measure, we need to understand a few factors that have a profound effect on whether or not you put yourself in the path of cancer. Or not.

Having struggled with Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and insulin resistance, All of these conditions are tell-tale signs that you are in the path of a storm called cancer.

Autoimmunity is one of the first steps on the path. A wake – up call that offers a shot at redemption. An opportunity to right a few wrongs.

Sometimes small changes add up to significant results. I am not referring to making up missed workouts or getting in more veggies. I am talking about “gene speak.” What am I telling my genes?

Don’t our genes dictate who gets cancer, and who does not?  Let me break it down. Hey, I don’t get the moniker of “GPS for your DNA” for nothing!

Outsmart cancer by considering these FACTORS.

Let me make it simple from the get-go. To beat cancer at its own game, you need to understand what fosters it. These factors below determine whether cancer cells will go rogue and turn into disease, or shrivel up and die.

THE METABOLIC FACTOR: The consensus is clear if you ask a metabolic specialist such as Dr. Jason Fung. There literally is “NO SUCH THING AS AN ESSENTIAL CARBOHYDRATE.” We thrive with very little. IF we need it, we can make it. With sugars low, our body would kick into “fatty acid metabolism” mode by producing ketones from body fat.  All of our body systems run better on fat than they do on carbs. Especially, the mitochondria.

Our mitochondria are responsible for making 90% of our energy. It stands to reason that proper fueling of our mitochondria makes a lot of sense. Metabolic sense for us, but, it is metabolic suicide for cancer.

Fact: we increase our ATP (cellular energy) by about 30% using ketones as fuel over glucose. Consequently, we increase the amount of oxygen available for our healthy cells. So fat-fueled = more energy + more oxygen = less fuel for cancer to grow.

Consuming less sugar means that you also are at less risk for oxidative stress. There is less damage to TELOMERES  –  the protective caps on the ends of our DNA. For each insulin spike, you are eroding those precious protective caps on your DNA. There is no such thing as a harmless “carb loading” session

Dr. Thomas Seyfried is a strong proponent for the metabolic theory of Cancer. Listen to his interview with “The Quantified Body” here:  Podcast: Quantified Body – guest Dr. Thomas Seyfried

Dr. Otto Warburg ( The Warburg effect ) came decades before Dr. Seyfried and won the NOBEL PRIZE in 1931 for his early recognition of the metabolic theory of cancer. Read More about Warburg’s theory .

THE OXIDATION FACTOR:  You really cannot blame a cancer cell from doing what it does.  Cancer also has a set of  “instructions” encoded in its DNA. Cancer cells – like healthy cells, work off their own “programming.”   You just have to be smarter than a cancer cell.

We must learn to outsmart cancer by living a lifestyle where by we are  increasing oxygen, keep insulin spikes at a minimum, , reducing oxidated stress and, finding ways to end emotional stress.

Kick cancer while it’s down.

To do this, we must address increasing oxygen within our cells.  Home ozone units for water are prevalent.  Increased uptake of oxygen in the mitochondria is measurable after such treatments

. Perhaps you also may have heard of hyperbaric oxygen therapies. Hyperbaric O2 is not just for divers anymore. Remember, cancer hates oxygen-rich environments.

Or, why not try a structured water bottle? A super simple option.

Structured water is another tool in the arsenal to increase the oxygenation of your cells.  Read Dr. Jack Kruse’s post on structured water to hit cancer cells where they live.  Higher oxygenation of cells from diet and therapies once again shine a light on the power that the human body has to heal itself.  Or, to prevent sickness and disease all together.

You have the power to beat cancer at its own game. You have to know how it plays.

Cancers Traveling Partners.

THE INFECTIONS FACTORYou might be surprised to learn that 90% of humans carry some form of the herpes virus. Understand there are eight different strains of herpesvirus. Each of them can be tied back to a particular type of cancer.

For one example, herpes simplex #1. This virus, which causes cold sores, has been implicated in not only oral and cervical cancers but also colon cancer.  In men, we have now seen links to prostate cancers as well.

This information makes it pretty easy to understand how infections could tie to a cancer diagnosis. A Florida researcher has his solution for infectious agents down to a science. Literally. The science is age-old, and NikolaTesla himself made it famous.

Researcher Tom Paladino has developed an instrument that is generating reviews from all over the world. These stories claim hope and healing.

They are healing from infections that medical science currently cannot cure. There are stories and testing showing freedom from herpes, Epstein-Barr, and even Lyme Disease.

Paladino says his instrument called SCALAR LIGHT, is “breaking apart the DNA bonds” of these pathogens. Talk about your quantum physics. His website has hundreds of testimonials.

He does not ask you to take his word for it. He prefers that you be the judge, so he offers a no-obligation trial right here.  And you might even marvel at HOW he does this.

Tom encourages anyone to take advantage of his offer to share this with your family at no cost. Tom followed the work of Nikola Tesla.

You can get my free guide HERE about how certain diseases and infections are precursors to cancer. I wrote this guide to share this important information with you.

Free your SOUL.

THE FORGIVENESS FACTOR:  Zen out! Forgive yourself and others. Cease holding grudges. Emotional traumas? Find a qualified energy medicine practitioners in your area.

One good Reiki Master will lead you to another useful resource. Or share a modality you may not have even knew existed. The community is tight-knit. They can figure out what programs, practitioners, or classes that could help you the most.

Not only your energy blockages but, those that may have been carried over in your DNA. Ancestral wounds that may stay contained within our own energetic signature/field. Or for a DIY, you can watch any EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) video and try working on yourself.

You don’t have to be skilled either, and there are many great coaches out here to help you. I enjoyed this free workshop, and you might also. BE OPEN to new things. Experiment with different modalities like sound healing, guided meditation, or even Qi Gong.

When you tap into your higher self and listen to the wisdom provided, all of your cells respond more healthily.

Dr. Kelly Turner, Ph.D., wrote an eye-opening book. Her book “RADICAL REMISSION: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds. What becomes evident in Dr. Turne’s book might surprise you.

In her book, she highlights nine factors associated with positive outcomes from cancer. Cancer of ALL stages. The nine elements are as follows:

The NINE factors are:

  • Changing your diet.
  • Taking control of your health.
  • Following your intuition.
  • Using herbs and supplements.
  • Releasing suppressed emotions.
  • Increasing positive emotions.
  • Embracing social support.
  • Deepening your spiritual connection.

Surprisingly, when assessing outcomes of patients, several factors caused the most significant increase in healing while others made less of an impact. If you thought that changing the DIET was the most beneficial, you would be incorrect.

The top 3 beneficial changes in lifestyle were related to emotional and spiritual status and not diet or exercise. Forgiving and letting go of improved health MORE than diet and supplements in beating cancer. EVERYTHING is energetic. We would be foolish to disregard it.

The ENERGETIC therapies had the most profound effect.

Do something that brings joy every day. Be careful what you think and more importantly, what you say. Words manifest. Outsmart cancer by not welcoming its presence in your life. Speak it. “Cancer, you are not welcome here.” Own it and outsmart it. Take back your power.

Living a Thyroid Friendly Life

Thyroid Healthy Tips To Keep your Thyroid In Tip Top Shape

Thyroid dysregulation is rampant today. Cases range from severe (cancers) to mild. The sheer numbers of Americans diagnosed each year is staggering.

Shockingly, diagnosing thyroid issue seems to elude a far more staggering number of people. I fell into that category myself. Eventually, I learned what I needed to change and took action. That is just how I “roll.”

The Symphony Is Only As Good As The Conductor.

We were, after all, divinely designed. Unfortunately, we were not meant to handle the numerous types of substances in our environment that we now swim in every single day.

Sadly, our “cleaning mechanism and systems” do not get an automatic operating system upgrade as our Smart Phones do. WE must make changes.

The human glandular system works like a well-orchestrated symphony when functioning as designed. Thyroid glands (and glands in general) are an excellent example of this orchestration.

. The highest forms of communication take place at the level of the human cell. In the case of our thyroid, there is a “sentinel” who gets the message out.
That means that the next “player” in the symphony has to interpret with accuracy, what the first guy told him to play.

They take in raw materials and turn them into usable “fuel” for this complex system. A system that controls everything from body temperature, digestion, the making/secreting of hormones, and so many more functions.

Interestingly, these glands even work together to slow us down or speed us up. In the case of the thyroid gland, the instrument is only as good as the conductor.

Hit it Maestro!

Five steps begin the process. In a tiny gland in our brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus (a pea-sized gland in the brain) monitors the levels of thyroid hormone in your body.

Your hypothalamus produces thyrotropin-releasing hormone accordingly (TRH).  Below the hypothalamus is the anterior pituitary gland. This action produces TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone.)

TSH then calls upon our thyroid gland (which produces thyroxine.  Thyroxine is known as  (T4), which converts to a language our body understands better. Triiodothyronine  (T3) which ultimately becomes an essential player here as it is the ACTIVE hormone. Our bodies listen for instructions from T3. Here is where the music and careful orchestration begins.

Let the Music Play.

T4 is converted into the more active T3 by the deiodinase system (D1, D2, D3) in multiple tissues and organs, but especially in the liver, gut, skeletal muscle, brain and the thyroid gland itself. Here is where  T3 turns into an inactive form of thyroid hormone in the liver.

Transporters carry the T3 and T4 to our tissues.  The transporters are called Thyroid binding globulins (TBG).  Once in the tissues they are cleaved from their carrier and become FREE.

Free T4 and free T3 to be exact,  which can now bind to thyroid hormone receptors (THRs) and exert their metabolic effect. We must measure what is ACTIVE to really understand what is USABLE thyroid hormone that available to do it’s job.

Chemical Confusion.

Sadly, many things can go wrong with this process. Imagine that something as simple as your toothpaste can confuse this delicate process. A process occurs through a” chemical confusion.” Tricking your body into thinking that you have all the thyroid hormone you need from the fluoride in your toothpaste.

Your body may misinterpret fluoride for thyroid hormone as fluoride “fits in the keyhole” but does not turn the key. Better yet, imagine having numerous keys that all fit into the SAME lock of your door, but only one of them can let you in

Only one key fits into the lock at a time, right? Fluoride, chlorine, and bromine are all culprits that fit into our thyroid receptors. Often, these molecules get to the target first leaving no room for our hormone. These imposters don’t work the way our hormone does.

So, who are these tricksters? They are called HALOGENS and are chemically similar to our natural thyroid hormone. Many times these molecules (keys) get to the receptor FIRST, first leaving no room for our hormone key. These imposters don’t open the lock that makes our thyroid work properly.

thyroid, thinning har, fatigue, brain fog, synthroid, tsh, T3, hypothyroidism,

Plasticizers like BPA, heavy metals like mercury, and many other chemicals found routinely in our environment disrupt or confuse the natural symphony of our bodies..

Be Smarter Than Your Doctor.

The result? You feel fatigued, cold, depressed, achy, and gain weight. You may lose your hair or part of your eyebrows. Uncomfortably dry skin becomes a problem despite lotions and potions. The real tragedy is that should you consult your physician; he may not run all the testing needed to pick up on the deception.

Here lies the main issue. “You cannot find something if you are not looking for it.”

Most doctors today do only a basic thyroid panel and miss situations where our bodies may be making antibodies to our thyroid gland. We can become “under attack” from our defense system. How cruel!

We may have trouble converting T4 into its active counterpart T3. As with any complicated system, many things could go wrong.

Following the Right Path

Have you ever heard this expression:  If someone has the results you want -do what they DO? ” I took that advice in 2012 after listening to a woman who cured her own “Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.” I learned most all cases of low thyroid fall under the title of Hashimoto’s.

Most cases are immediately are treated with thyroid drugs. Sadly, they don’t always have to be Many things were added to my daily routine. A lot more would be removed.  Namely, toothpaste with fluoride was out the window. Body washes, dryer sheets, and all plastics went too. I had to make sure that most of the things that were within my environment were non-toxic and natural.

Mercury fillings we mostly removed as well. Scarily, removing them can be as much of a problem as leaving them in.

Ousting toxic metals from my tissues became my life’s mission. Coffee enemas and dry skin brushing became several times weekly habits. Dammit, I was going to get better.

Ketogenic Diet Makes a Big Fat Comeback

Ketogenic diets are not new.

You might recall that ketogenic diets were made famous in the 1980s and ’90s by Dr. Robert Atkins and his products are popular with many dieters to this very day.

Interestingly, even up until today, some Doctors use the ketogenic diet to hinder seizures in those who have failed to respond to drug therapy. It was around 1998 that I first heard the words “if you eat more fat, you can lose more fat.”

I am one who never denounces something without giving it a fair shot.  Crazier ideas have proven factual.

Truthfully, I am quite fond of the saying, “The true definition of ignorance is to denounce something one knows nothing about.” So I set out to learn first hand.

Back then, as a  Personal Trainer and health educator, my reach was pretty substantial. Credibility was at stake with every suggestion that I made.  After all, my goal is to help others improve their health.  Each week my clients would tell me about Dr. Robert Atkins and his book about how eating bacon and cheese were dropping notches on their belt loops I had long since given up both of those foods in the name of health to reach my weight goal. After losing 80 lbs., I rarely ate either of them.

ketogenic diets, metabolic therapiesI found that my clients were boasting new found energy. At the end of our workouts, I could see they clearly performed BETTER than they had before. Many boasted feeling better than they had in their lifetime. This ketogenic diet seemed to really help change my client’s health quickly.

And then the other shoe dropped.

The Ketogenic Thrill Is Gone.

About two to three weeks into this new “diet,” many of my clients fell off the fat wagon. Why? It seems that fatigue limited their inability to complete workouts.  Others shared that it was just ‘too hard” to give up certain foods. Most cheated. Back to the drawing board, they went.

Why?  Their bodies had yet to become adapted to ketones as a fuel source.  I would later learn this horrible fate was called the “keto flu.” There would be a ketonian nirvana if you could survive the wrath of the keto flu.

It was the rite of passage into the world of being in ketosis.   For me, the intrigue set in. I was exercising about 5 hours a day easily. Would I lose energy?  What was this diet? Maybe I should test it out for myself. I committed to my first N=1.

Sixty days was the trial period, and I would stick to it. Then something amazing happened.

Eureka Moment.

Around week 3-4, I noticed several awesome things — no more blood sugar highs and lows. I was eating less.  I was eating LESS OFTEN.  Feelings of pure energy and true clarity of mind had me singing the praises of Dr. Atkins.

Although I still was unsure if this was healthy or not, I felt great.  Especially of concern to me was  WHEN NOT IF,  cholesterol issues would show.  The thought haunted me. But I felt amazing!

But could I live like this?   Not only could I, but wait until you see the changes in my lab work after eating mainly fats. EVERY marker for inflammation – GONE from my body.    http://biohackingwellness.com/big_fat_success/  see my ACTUAL test results before and after eating high fat.

Lone Soldier.

Every person I knew that had started this higher fat eating strategy was back to their original eating strategy except me. I stayed the course with very few blood sugar spikes. This strategy (I hoped) would one day pay off.

What History Proves.

Something deep inside me told me that eating fat was not bad. Weren’t’ our brains are about 60 % fat? And what about the fat-soluble vitamins? Don’t they need fats to be assimilated?  Our bodies make Vitamin D with the use of cholesterol. Another fat-based substance.

Cave dwellers did not go out in search of a 100-calorie snack pack. They ate meat, fat, fish, bark, insects, and fruits and veggies in season.

Here is the continued argument for the validity of a ketogenic diet. If we look at the requirement of our bodies that are of utmost importance, we can see the logic.

Fat Facts

Ketogenic, butter, saturated fat, LCHF, ketosis, intermittent fastingPrimarily fats help to make hormones and neurotransmitters and signal satiety.
• Additionally, fats also help to make MYELIN which is the sheath that covers nerve fibers
• 60% of our brains are fat.
• If we don’t EAT cholesterol, then our body will make MORE.
• When our body is running on fat as fuel, the energy extracted provides about 30% more ATP than glucose.
• Animal fats do not oxidize and cause free radicals the way other oils do.

Additionally, fats do not raise blood glucose or insulin.

You can’t get THIS in a pill.

The ACTIVE form of B12 (methylcobalamin) derives from an animal source (or blackstrap molasses). Humans and animals have difficulty using synthetic forms of B12, and our genetics dictate this. Much of what we get from plants would be unusable without fats.

If we are to get what our DNA requires, the co-factors we need to survive and procreate it becomes pretty clear.

Knowing that electrons RULE when it comes to energy – a keto diet is superior in its ability to provide a steady supply of electrons.

Keto Done RIGHT.

The ketogenic diet, when done right, is comprised of about 25-40 grams of carbohydrate only.  Contrary to the Atkins diet of the past, a true healing ketogenic diet calls for only a modest intake of protein. For most women, this averages out to about 50-70 grams per day — 70-120 grams for men. Anyone in the bodybuilding community would call me a fool for the last statement I just

made. They would be uninformed.

Check out this article on ketones, ketosis, and preserving muscle.

Overeating protein has a very negative effect on our genes. High protein intake also causes an increase in ammonia in our blood. So, in the process of elimination, we can see the facts.  Check out these resources on the overconsumption of protein.

Ron Rosedale – Protein: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Bacon and Cheese.

ile bacon and cheese are ketogenic foods, processed food is still processed. I am not saying you should not eat them at all.  But strictly limiting them assures you don’t add one health issue to remove another.

Work With Eating Windows.

Think HUNTER-GATHERER not handfuls of nuts. Nuts are great on a keto diet, but those carbs add up. Containing the eating window to a six to eight hour period works wonderfully in conjunction with a well-designed keto diet.

This comeback is a true health hack! It might just be what the “doctor ordered.”
